Ex Service discussion

City of Westminster Archives invited ex-service personnel to take part in two discussion sessions lead by Marysia Lachowicz.  The sessions were organised on days which were significant to Walter Tull.

The first session was held on the 25th March, 2008, the 90th anniversary of Walter Tull’s death.  The West Indian ex-servicemen were invited to the National Army Museum to discuss issues relating to Walter Tull including their own experience of serving as black men in the British army.  Later, the West Indian ex-servicemen visited the schools drama workshop and shared their own personal experiences with the children.

The second session was arranged by Marilyn Stephenson-Knight from the Dover War Memorial Project and was held on the 28th April, 2008, the 120th anniversary of Walter’s birth.  Kent ex-service personnel were invited to Dover Town Hall to discuss Walter Tull and to share their experience of serving in the British army.  The event was hosted by Bob Markham and Lady Mayor Lyn.
