City of Westminster Archives education Officer, Peter Daniel, delivered fourteen education sessions to 365 children (years 5 & 6), in schools in London, Preston and Folkestone.

Peter Daniel went through the book Crossing the White Line: The Walter Tull Story (see resources) with the children.  The children were then encouraged to explore Walter Tull’s story using a range of materials including film, the Walter Tull animation and artefacts relating to WW1.  The children completed some of the activities from the Activity Pack (see resources) and the session ended with questions and answers.

Teachers' comments:

“Very informative and enjoyable.  The children have been inspired and learnt so much. A really good project which my class have really enjoyed, thank you.”

"It was very helpful that the children could use a range of learning aids, such as artefacts, film and a visit to local war memorials.  I felt that this put Walter Tull's story into historical context."

"We learnt alot of interesting information about Walter Tull, whom I previously knew nothing about"
